Uses    The compound is used in pigments and in water purifications.
Preparation    Iron(III) hydroxide is obtained as a brown gelatinous precipitate by adding a strong base to a solution of iron(III) salt:
FeCl3 + 3NaOH → Fe(OH)3 + 3NaCl
